JOHN TONIN
Lead guitar and vocalist John Tonin joined the Lulu’s Band in 1995. His career began in various local bands in the Guelph area before taking it “on the road” throughout Canada and the US, from Baffin Island to New York and from Vancouver to Las Vegas, culminating his talent as lead guitarist for the power rock group “Thor”. John was also a member of the Funland Band which became the opening act for the ever popular “Polka Dot Door”. During this time period, John performed in numerous Rock Guitar Championships where he achieved 2nd place – competing on a national level.
John’s driving and innovative guitar licks along with his exceptional vocals and energy give the group a depth and definite edge to their stage presence.
In addition to Rock, John plays many different styles of guitar including surf, flamenco and jazz – being his favorites. John’s surf style can be heard on his own CD entitled “6 String Johnny and the Jalepenos”. He is also praised for his teaching ability as a guitar instructor and yoga instructor. John combines his passion for Latin/Flamenco music with his love of singing and chanting ancient Sanskri mantras on his second CD, entitled “Yogijohn – Latindian Mantra Music”
When not performing with the Lulu’s Band, John’s time is spent writing music, working as a session guitarist in the studios, performing as a solo act for many dining establishments and other corporate functions, and, of course, meditating on his yoga mat…OHMMMMM.
